65, rue de Richelieu, Paris 2ᵉ (salle Léopold-Delisle)
The Cinémathèque française, the National Library of Israel, the Stanford University Libraries, the Cinémathèque suisse, and the Bibliothèque nationale de France are all institutions entrusted with the mission of preserving the memory of Amos Gitaï’s work, a prolific and multiform filmmaker. Far from being gratuitous, this will of distribution aims at encouraging dialogue between institutions. Indeed, he has the ambition to make its archives live and believes that sharing experience goes hand in hand with the development of cinematographic archives exploitation.
The filmmaker’s donation to the BnF in 2018 proved to be a great field of experimentation to question the needs, testing new tools and new methods of analysis. Also, it has been a relevant prism to initiate the dialog with other establishments. Therefore, this event aims to discuss the crucial questions of collecting, preserving, describing and making massive collections of film archives available. Through the various sessions and contributions the progress of each institution on their Gitaï archives will be presented. We’ll also interrogate the donation process as well as raising the difficulties of selecting digital archives. Eventually we’ll go over the expectations of researchers on this topic.
