The École nationale des chartes is a grand établissement of higher education. At the cutting edge of historical research, for which it has continually and deeply renewed its methods since it was founded in 1821, the School has continued to support the development of methods in history, art history, archaeology and philology, as well as the modernisation of the heritage and library conservation professions.
